Educate, encourage, people to spend most of their exercise practices producing clean energy via special equipments such as electricity producing exercise bikes and treadmills instead of wasting this valuable resource. Turn gyms to electric generation stations. Develop such equipment via business innovation grants and loans making this healthy process profitable as well.
A way to recycle plastic AND provide clean drinking water through free desalinized sea water all at the same time. This can be done by using plastic water bottles and other clear plastic items, like ice cream buckets that otherwise would've gone into landfills, repurposing them. It costs nothing and the resultant water only needs to be boiled for drinking, just to be completely safe.
Wood-fired generators on converted logging trucks teethered into the electric grid that criss crosses our national forests. Instead of piling and burning piles when manual releasing/thinning forests or cleaning up after logging, you use the slash to create electricity and reduce the cost per acre to clean up the forest. Jobs, cheap energy, safer forests, less fires, lower insurance.
Ask the White House to hold an environmental summit with speakers who are established experts in the field. This would not only educate all of us on important environmental issues, including but not restricted to global warming, but it would also establish the United States as the world leader on the environment.
With the technology that we have, currently. Meaning that if we can design a space craft capable of going to Mars. Then we can surely design the necessary equipment to harvest water from the oceans, and expand the food production for the planet, now overflowing with almost 8 billion people. We have the technology. We can do this. For our children and our future.
When I was a child, Jimmy Carter got us concerving gas and heating oil, recycling and carpooling. It was a ver exciting time and there was such a sense of community participation. What happened to the household word, "conservation"? Lights off when not in use, heat to a reasonable level, drive less, buy only what you need, etc.. I'd like Obama to spearhead a national, inspirational movement to remind every citizen that WE have the power to slow the train down with what we buy how we live.
