Too late. There's been no money in the SS Trust Fund since the 1930's.
On paper, they have almost 3 trillion.
In reality, the Feds were allowed to borrow 100% of the trust fund several decades ago, and have NO ability to pay it back.
Sorry folks, there's NOTHING there. It is literally a Ponzi scheme: your current payments cover the cost of those who retired before you. It has been that way ever since about 4-5 years after SS began.
Your own payments are completely inadequate to cover your own retirement as well. The hope is that our kids will pay for us... except we have a shrinking workforce.
THIS is why there is over 100 trillion in unfunded liabilities: ie, promised future payments that NOBODY knows how to cover.
