Have a Big Idea?

End homelessness by building homes, quickly. The government should establish a homebuilding agency that will build new housing until there are no more homeless people. This newly built housing should be sold not only to nonprofits, but to housed, middle class people as well, because as long as the overall number of houses increases, prices decrease, and fewer people will become homeless. This is a basic market intervention.

In most cases and most places, there's more than enough unoccupied space, both commercial and residential. (Just as there is more than enough food.) The economy (and broader culture) simply isn't designed to match resources with people. It's designed to take resources from most people for the benefit of very few people.
