The Big Ideas Project

Investing for Tomorrow's Schools Act. Authorizes the Secretary of the Treasury to enter into cooperative agreements with states to establish state and multistate infrastructure banks that make loans promoting education. Requires loans also to community learning centers to connect and improve broadband services. Requires borrowers to use, to the maximum extent practicable, green construction or renovation practices.

Prosecute companies and public employers such as universities who pay women less than men for the same work. Make these employers retroactively pay the women their equal portion of wages for the entire time they worked there. Hold the individual persons financially accountable for their discrimination of women.

Withdraw from our "free trade" deals, and insist in FAIR trade. Corporations should not be allowed to export jobs and pollution to places like China and Mexico where the laws do not apply. Require that all goods and services used in the USA are produced under US environmental and labor standards.

There is need to end how money influences our policy and campaigns. Instead of limiting contributions by repealing citizens united, a bill could put a cap on campaign SPENDING. This would create a level economic playing field for candidates, eliminate the need to focus on fund raising in order to be re-elected which obligates candidates to owe favors to donors and national parties rather than do what's best for ALL Americans,

Invest heavily in potential technology that can clean the air and water. Along those lines, create a line of desalination vehicles and a network to save and preserve water for when it's needed. Spur on water management so areas inflicted by drought will have someplace to turn to. For areas that usually undergo drought, have the nearest possible location that averages steady rainfall to create an emergency water fund that can be transported to afflicted areas.

Bring more industry back to the US. Not by providing Tax breaks to these huge corporations, but increase the import tariffs so that it becomes more cost effective to manufacture on US soil.

Forgive student loans for people 65 or older with income of less than $35K. Lower interest to 2% and defer student loans for anyone under 65 with income less than $35K. Allow student loan payments, principal and interest, to be tax deductible for anyone earning less than $60K.

Pharmaceutical companies, like tobacco companies should be banned from advertising on television or in any other publication not targeted to physicians and other medical professionals. These advertisements cause the uninformed public to pressure their doctors to prescribe these expensive and unproven drugs even when they are not justified. The public lacks the knowledge to determine which drugs are best for them.

Make sure all seniors and disabled people have the resources they need to live independently in their communities instead of in institutions and that they are the ones calling the shots in their own lives. That would bring freedom to many and save a lot of money.

To boost health and to make life simpler for the small organic farmer, why not allow them to not fill out all the paper work that 'big farmer's, (read corporate farms) require, and promote organic, not GMO foods. Do away with unnecessary rules and regulations that will hinder the organic farmer.

Federal oversight of all state and federal election voting machines. Allowing corporations and companies to control and own voting machines without critical oversight is a bell toll for the death of democracy. Require all registered voting machines to be inspected by federal and state officials and tested week before and day after an election. Require all votes to be recounted a second time the following day of election before anything is decided whether a candidate wins or loses.

Support the Congressional Progressive Caucus' budget bill. The budget is the single most important issue for the nation because it covers many issues. Despite the negative feelings associated by many with progressives, we can win with this because all the polls show the vast majority of Americans (including Republicans!) support practically everything in this bill. This bill just needs to be publicized.

Establish a national severance tax for all petroleum products exported overseas. Use the revenue along with that of NERA to pay down the national deficit & expand Social Security, then to lower nationwide individual taxes and refurbish public education to properly equip the next generation with the skill sets required to meet future economic requirements;e.g., restoring the "High" in public high school education to bring it up to a two year non-specialized college/technical level.

End all impossible to win Wars on Things and Ideologies.... Like the "War on Drugs" and the "War on on Terror". We already have plenty of regular laws to control the Crimes committed without declaring generalized and unrestricted Wars on unidentifiable and unspecific enemies.
